I Believe in Miracles
|
|
This page is for Jena Suzanne,
our "miracle" baby.
On September 17, 1992, your daddy called with the news that I'm to be a
"grandma". My first grandchild -- how wonderful!
Hey, little one, whatever you are
I think in my life you'll be a star.
Your Daddy's an angel, my number one son
The love of my life and so much fun.
Your Mommy's a sweetheart, cute and petite.
And big brother, Alex, is really neat.
Are you a girl or a little boy?
Either way you'll bring great joy.
But I'm impatient..I want to know
Are you Alex's sister or little "bro"?
March 16, 1993 brought another phone call. Mama's in the hospital.
"NO, it's too soon............"
You were born at 2:10 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 1993. You weighed 2 pounds 2
1/2 ounces and measured a whopping 14 1/2 inches long.
You were so very tiny and you had ten beautiful toes and ten beautiful fingers
and precious ears and beautiful dark hair. You were born nine weeks, or to be
exact, 65 days, too early.
When Daddy and I first saw you there were tubes and monitors everywhere on you
and it was so scary. Then just a little while later we got to roll Mama in her
bed in to see you. She reached over and touched your hand....so soft, so
fragile.
The nurse took your picture when you were one hour old.
With your ventilator/respirator you couldn't cry. And more than anything, baby
girl, I wanted to hear you cry.
We were told it might be days, or even weeks, before you could breathe on your
own......but the very next day (Saturday afternoon) Daddy and
Mama came back from seeing you and said your breathing tube was out and you
were crying.
My darling Jena, your crying was the sweetest thing I've ever heard. You cried
and I cried.
Having a child is a wonderous thing
Love and joy and hearts that sing.
My life revolved around two little boys
And resulted in love and hugs and joys.
Before I knew it, the boys were men
And very able themselves to defend.
I must admit I felt lonely and blue
And sometimes didn't know what to do.
And then came the next step in my life.
My oldest son, he took a wife.
A dark-haired beauty, cute as could be
Another female, not just me.
I got a grandson in my life
Since my son got a son as well as a wife.
And then one day, it was in the fall,
I got a joyous, wonderful call.
"Grandma" he said and said no more
I knew their family would soon be four.
Speechless usually isn't my style,
But I didn't say anything for quite awhile.
Is it a boy or a little girl?
Either way, my life's awhirl.
We begin to shop and sew and plan
And do just everything we can.
I'm so ready a baby to love
As God knows in heaven above.
And then it gets crazy and all awry.
We all have questions and wonder why.
Not as we planned, but still alright,
She's tiny and frail and full of fight.
Nine weeks too soon, a little early.
Will that dark hair end up curly?
Ten little fingers and ten little toes
Can't wait to dress her in ruffles and bows.
My precious son, if only you knew,
I'll love her just as much as you.
The wait is endless, or so it seems
We're ready now to fulfill our dreams.
The nursery is ready, tidy and neat,
Just need our baby to make it complete.
I'll repeat the words with which I began,
And then we'll start all over again.
Having a child is a wonderous thing
Love and joy and hearts that sing.
Ups and downs, tests, setbacks, good days, bad days and then the wonderful
glorious day that you came home, May 4, 1993
You were 46 days old and weighed 4 lb. 3 ½ oz.
Your parent's third wedding anniversary was June 16, 1993. I felt bad because
I forgot about it until Mama and I were talking on the phone.....but to make it
even worse, Daddy forgot too and he really felt terrible. I went over the next
night and kept you while they went to eat.
They joke and say most people have to pay a babysitter, but not them. They
have a babysitter that would pay them to go out just so I can keep you.
That's O.K., just let them laugh.....they don't know what a good time we have
when they are gone and all the things we talk about.

Jena Suzanne, what have you done?
GranGran's heart you've totally won!
Never a girl in my life before
Just two little boys I still adore.
But let me tell you, angel mine,
What I feel I can't define.
So very tiny when you were born
Tubes and monitors...so forlorn.
Unbelievable spirit and lots of fight,
Along with prayers, made you all right
More gorgeous and beautiful day by day
Surely perfect in every way.
Oh, little one, I think of you
With hopes and dreams of what we'll do.
I love your smile, your ruffles and bows
Your hands and feet and little nose.
I won't even question or wonder why
I just want to teach you a lullaby.
Thank you, sweet Jesus, is all I can say
You knew a girl would make my day.
At first I used Cabbage Patch Doll patterns to sew for you but for your first
Christmas, you were big enough that I could use a newborn pattern for the dress
in the this picture. You lost all of your hair, BUT you were never without a
bow.
Each year for your birthday, I put your picture, along with a poem, in the
local paper.
Happy First Birthday, Jena Suzanne Corley
You scared us with your early start,
But it didn't take long to steal our heart,
Truly a darling without a doubt.
You've shown us what love is all about.
In our eyes, you're the star of the show,
It's a joy to watch as you grow and grow.
It's hard to believe you're one year old,
So independent, do brave and bold.
May your life be filled with joy and love,
Our sweetheart, our angel from heaven above.
HAPPY SECOND BIRTHDAY, JENA CORLEY
Jena Suzanne, you're turning two,
And yes our world revolves around you.
GranGran, GranNonnie, Uncle Todd and Aunt D
Think you're just as sweet as can be.
Mama and Daddy and Bubba, too,
Love everything you say and do.
You're still our angel from heaven above
And such a joy for us all to love.
HAPPY THIRD BIRTHDAY, JENA CORLEY
Jena Suzanne, how can it be?
I blinked my eyes and you're already three.
Diapers and bottles are way in the past
Goodness, gracious, you're growing up fast!
Diamond earrings, bows in your hair,
A real little darling whatever you wear.
A swing set, a trike and learning to ride,
With rabbit always by your side.
Your smiles, hugs and kisses mean the world to me
My sweet little angel who's turning three.
Happy Fourth Birthday, Jena Corley
Jena Suzanne, sweet love, I adore
How in the world are you already four?
So grown up and so much fun
Always busy and on the run
You may have had a slow, shaky start
But, oh little one, how you light up my heart
You're sweeet and smart and quite a delight
And with you around everything is all right.
Sweet little angel from heaven above,
You've given so much joy and love.
Hugs and kisses and "I'll stay one more night"
Just fill my heart with joy and delight.
Happy Birthday, Jena Corley
Goodness, gracious, sake alive,
Jena Suzanne is turning five.
The years are flying right on by
How we love you, sweetie pie.
And now you are six. Sorry no newspaper picture this year...
how about a Birthday Web Page instead:
Jena Is Six
Happy Seventh Birthday
Happy Eighth Birthday
Happy Ninth Birthday
Happy Tenth Birthday
One of my favorite pictures....my son and his daughter
Yes, I believe in miracles. Do you see now why I do?
