Halloween is the night for ghosts and goblins, witches and black cats, haunted
houses and the rattling bones of skeletons. It is the time, some say, that the
headless horesman rides through the streets, his great sword flashing in the
night.
Each October 31st, people almost everywhere celebrate Halloween. in the United States, children dress in costumes. They go from house to house, calling "Trick or Treat." And woe to the person who cannot find some candy or cookies, an apple, or even a penny for the callers. In some places, bonfires blaze against the sky. People duck for apples. And pumpkins are carved and placed in windows to leer out at people. |

Note from GranGran:
How I wish we could go back to a gentler, kinder time when the above words were true. Halloween and Trick or Treating -- what fun times when I was young. We walked all over town without a care in the world. And parents didn't worry. I was a little more cautious when my boys were growing up -- but still didn't think Trick or Treating was something they shouldn't do. Now it really makes me sad that my grandchildren can't enjoy Halloween as I knew it. |
