Mrs. Rosa Doerr Dies Suddenly
Heart Disease Kills Perryville Citizen Wednesday Funeral at 2 p. m. Friday

Mrs. Rosa Pfeiffer Doerr, 74 years old, died suddenly at 10:15 o'clock Wednesday morning, January 12, at her home in this city, of heart disease.  She was stricken while attending to her household duties and lived but a half-hour afterwards.  A daughter, Mrs. Samuel Bond, was with her when she died.  The funeral will be held at 2 0'clock Friday afternoon from the Doerr residence on St Joseph Street.  There will be services at the Evangelical Lutheran Church and interment will be in the Lutheran Cemetery east of Perryville.  The Rev. A. Lohmann will conduct the services.

Mrs. Doerr was before her marriage Miss Rosa Pfieffer.  She was born April 10, 1846, in St. Louis.  During the Civil War her sympathies were with the Union forces and she did extensive nursing work in St. Louis hospitals.  On April 9, 1868, she married Louis Doerr, at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Louis.  They moved to St. Mary's soon after and then to Perryville, where Mr. Doerr engaged in the mercantile business.

Mrs. Doerr affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church here and was an active worker in that church during her life at Perryville.  She had been in failing health for the year just preceding her death.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Doerr leaves two daughters, Chloe, Mrs. R. V. Brown of near St. Marys and Ida, Mrs. Samuel Bond of Perryville.  A son Arthur, died in 1890.

The Rankin Family History Project began in 1997 with a simple 3 generation family chart.   Inspiration came from our grandmother who has shared a lot of great stories and really got us going when she loaned us her copy of Maryland Catholics on the Frontier by Timothy O'Rourke;   and also from Alex Haley, whom we had the pleasure of meeting shortly before Roots was published.   This site is dedicated to our great-grandparents.   Without them, we would not be here.
