Artist’s statement

“The inception of an art piece begins with a shell of an idea. In the process of painting I discover what the painting is about. This process is the same if I am working abstractly realistically, or with non objective visual markings. As a work of art unfolds in its creation, a personally specific image emerges which combines intuition, emotion and decision. In this way painting is a journey inward. It is a means of making the most possible meaning out of things. Much of my work is related to nature which is both solace and inspiration; it easily becomes a vehicle to suggest more abstract content. I use a layering process, employing planes of space which are often flat or illusionary. Often I create forms which are in the process of becoming, corresponding to the search inherent in the creative process and to the ephemeral aspect which is so much a part of daily experience, be it memory, time, understanding, feelings, or knowledge.”
