Replacement Stereo Realist Lens Cover
One weak point of the Stereo Realist is the lens cover. It is easy to break the tabs that hold it in place so the lens cover is often found missing or loose. Offered here for sale are replacement lens covers.
NOTE: The lens covers offered for sale here do not carry the Realist logo. This is how these lens covers were produced towards the end of the Realist production line. These are the same (or very similar) to the lens covers used in Custom Stereo Realists. It would be easy to install a custom name plate in the area in the front, as shown in the picture below (right).
To install a lens cover you need the new cover and two clips. These are $4 ea extra.
To install the replacement cover, follow these simple instructions, courtesy of DrT:
Set the shutter speed dial to 1 second
Remove the shutter speed bakelite assembly by removing the 4 screws that hold it in place (picture on the left, one screw is circled)
With the shutter speed assembly removed, place the lens cover over it so that the tabs in the cover match the openings in the shutter assembly (circled in 2nd picture, the clips will go inside these openings)
Place one spring inside the opening and using the tip of a pair of pliers, press it towards the center. You should hear a click. This means that the spring is in place. Open the cover to make sure everything is ok. CAUTION -> OPEN THE COVER CAREFULLY SO YOU DON'T BREAK THE SHUTTER DIAL <- CAUTION
With the cover installed, set the shutter speed dial to 1 sec and place shutter dial assembly in place and tighten with 4 screws.
