In the summer of 1976, Boy Scout Troop 64 made a decision to go on a wilderness canoe hike in Canada.

Day 1

Date: Sunday, August 1st, 1976
Start: Brent Station.
Portages: 0
Portage distance: 0 miles Canoe distance: 11 1/2 miles
Total Trip Distance: 11.50 miles
Weather: Windy, scattered clouds.
Terrain: Large lake.
Route:From the northwest arm of Cedar Lake, traveled across Cedar Lake, returned to the North shore of Cedar Lake. Northwest from Cedar Lake to Little Cedar Lake.
Finish: Island in Little Cedar Lake
Distance from Brent: 4 miles. Distance from Kiosk: 16 miles.

Day 2

Date: Monday, August 2nd, 1976
Start: Island in Little Cedar Lake.
Portages: 5
Portage distance: 1 1/4 miles Canoe distance: 15 1/4 miles
Total Trip Distance: 28.00 miles
Weather:Sunny, clear.
Terrain: Small lakes, level trails along a railroad line.
Route: Northwest along Little Cedar Lake following the train tracks. Portage 300 yards on Laurel Lake, 140 yard portage, northwest on Cauchan Lake. 480 yard portage up Mink Lake. A 490 yard portage. 800 yards. to Lake Kioshkokwi.
Finish: North shore of Kioshkokwi Lake.
Distance from Brent: 18 1/2 miles.Distance from Kiosk: 1 1/2 miles.

Day 3

Date: Tuesday, August 3rd, 1976
Start: North shore Kioshkokwi Lake, east of Kiosk.
Portages: 3
\ Portage distance: 1 mile Canoe distance: 7 miles
Total Trip Distance: 36.00 miles
Weather: Sunny, clear.
Terrain: Lakes, streams, some rapids, woods, trails.
Route:West to Kiosk across the lake. Obtained provisions. Left Kiosk, crossed Kioshkokwi Lake. Three portages, 220, 300 and 1300 yards.
FinishNortheast shore Manitou Lake, Dufond Depot Farm Site.
Distance from Brent: 23 1/4 miles.Distance from Kiosk: 5 1/4 miles.


Day 4

Date: Tuesday, August 4rd, 1976
Start: Northeast shore Manitou Lake, Dufound Depot Farm.
Portages: 6
Portage distance: 2 1/5 miles Canoe distance: 15 1/2 miles
Total Trip Distance: 53.75 miles
Weather:Clear, cool
Terrain:Lakes, hills, mud, swamp.
Route:SW Mauiton Lake. 450 yard portage to North Tea Lake. 260 yard portage, 100 yard, 20 yard portage to Bigger Lake, 2200 yard portage. 700 yard portage.
Finish: Island in Lawren Harris Lake.
Distance from Brent: 20 miles. Distance from Kiosk13 miles.

Day 5

Date:Thursday, August 5th, 1976
Start:Northeast shore Manitou Lake, Dufond Depot Farm site.
Portages: 6
Portage distance: 3 1/5 miles Canoe distance: 2 4/5 miles
Total Trip Distance: 59.75 miles
Weather:Rain
Terrain: Marsh land, trails with hills, lakes.
Route: Came upon a 20 yard, 540, 10 yard portage. Next was a 2130 yard portage. 2910 yards to the Nipissing River.
Finish:Island in Lawren Harris Lake.
Distance from Brent: 20 miles. Distance from Kiosk: 13 miles.

Day 6

Date: Friday, August 6th, 1976
Start:East side Allen Rapids Portage.
Portages:8
Portage distance: 6 5/8 miles Canoe distance: 11 3/8 miles
Total trip distance: 78.25 miles
Weather:Clear, sunny.
Terrain: Swamp.
Route:Along the Nipissing River, 450 and 400 yard portage. A 1300 and 1200 yard portage. A 400 yard portage.
Finish: Nipissing River, 8 miles west of Brent Station.
Distance from Brent: 8 miles. Distance from Kiosk: 16 miles.

Day 7

Date: Saturday, August 7th, 1976
Start: Nipissing River, 8 miles west of Brent Station.
Portages: 1
Portage distance: 3/5 miles Canoe distance: 7 2/5 miles
Total trip distance: 86.25 miles
Weather: Clear, sunny.
Terrain: Flat, some mash, large lake.
Route:Paddle dowwnstream, until you reach a 1,000 yard portage, leading into the West Bay of Cedar Lake. Crossed Cedar Lake to Brent Station.
Finish: Brent Station
Distance from Brent: 0 miles Distance from Kiosk: 19 3/4 miles
