Trumbull Emergency Medical Service
250 Middlebrooks Avenue
Trumbull, Connecticut 06611
Since December 1976
Trumbull EMS is a volunteer service comprised of 125 active members providing emergency medical assistance to the community. The present headquarters building was established by the Trumbull Lions Club on September 10th, 1978 and is the first free-standing EMS building in the United States. Headquarters will house a full crew with a paramedic on duty 24 hours a day. A full crew consists of a radio dispatcher, driver and two EMT's. The radio dispatcher remains at headquarters and is in charge of all radio communications between TEMS personnel and 911.
EMT's in the Town of Trumbull are issued communications pagers, first aid trauma kits and oxygen equipment for use in responding to calls within their neighborhoods. These EMT's are called On-callers. The on-callers usually arrive at the patient's home or accident scene before the ambulance to start primary care immediately. This on-call system is the key to providing quality patient care with a less than four minute response time.
Trumbull EMS operates under the standards set by the Federal Department of Transportation, State of Connecticut Department of Health Services, State of Connecticut Department of Transportation, Southwestern Connecticut EMS Advisory Council and Joint Hospital Planning Council of Bridgeport. In addition, TEMS has inservice protocols that promote the best patient care service possible. Several emergency department physicians and other practicing physicians serve as medical advisors to TEMS.
Trumbull EMS is always in need of dedicated volunteers. If you are interested in joining and live in or near the Trumbull, Connecticut area, we would be happy to accept your request for membership. We are looking for drivers, dispatchers and EMT's. For information on joining contact us at 452-5146.
