Pricking / Overstitch Wheels:

Use:

Pricking Wheels: Are used to mark the locations to stab the awl into the leather when hand stitching leather parts together. The numbers on the tool typically indicate the number of stitches per inch.

Overstitch Wheels: Perform the same function as a marking wheel, however it is shaped to also create a false stitch impression. It is also said to be used to be used to roll over the top of hand stitching to even out the threads, hence the name overstitch wheel.

In the above pictures the overstitch wheel is on the left and the pricking wheel on the right. The overstitch wheels points are created with rounded surfaces and the pricking wheels are triangular in shape.
