Kelly Steed Professional Bio:
Kelly Steed was born in Detroit, MI in 1965. She received the D. A. R. Good Citizen Award while a senior at St. Clement High School Centerline, MI. Kelly holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in U.S. History, Secondary Education Curriculum, from Northern Michigan University 1989. Her 1984 Maggie Mae House jacket from Halverson Hall and photo are part of the Bearmier Heritage Center's permanent collection at Northern Michigan University. She completed two Personal Enrichment Courses at Macomb Community College in Warren, MI: Patents, Trademarks and Copyrights 1995 and Copy Editing Techniques in 1996. Kelly completed the Microsoft Tutorials for Word, Excel and Power Point in 2004 but has yet to take the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification exams.
Kelly is a published poet, freelancer and novelist concentrating mainly on Speculative Fiction (Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror) both adult and YA. Her first novel Stasis was co-authored by childhood friend Colleen Elliott. Stasis is a hard science fiction/horror novel about the dangers of cryonics technology. PublishAmerica, Inc. published Stasis as a Trade Paperback in 2001. As of November 13th, 2006, Stasis has been taken out-of-print at the request of the authors with all rights returned. It will be revised and submitted to a new publisher.
In February 2001, she
received an Honorable Mention in the Rotten Romance Contest sponsored by Hutton
Publications. She was a finalist in the Creative Journal "Writing
is..." Contest for May/June 2001.
Kelly was the Featured Author for April 2002 at Anthologies Online and the Artist of the Month (Poet) on Jassmin.com for May 2002. She was quoted in the article "What Really Scares You? Horror Authors Reveal Their Fears" By Joseph W. Miles. Miles was the fiction editor for Deviant Minds Magazine. The article appeared in the October 2003 issue and is no longer archived on the web.
Kelly is a member of the Military Order of the Cooties, a Lifetime Member of the V. F. W. Auxiliary, a Distinguished Member of the International Society of Poets, and a former member of The National Author's Registry (1997). In 2007 she co-founded the Marion County Fiction Writers (OH) along with historical romance author Judi Thoman and a member of the Mid-Ohio Writers Association. "Yorktown 1981, Barefoot, Pregnant and In Camp", an essay about male chauvinism in Revolutionary War Reenacting, was awarded the Accomplishment of Merit certificate in 1997 by the Board of Judges, Creative Arts & Science Enterprises and was published in their Echoes of Destiny anthology (Creative Arts & Science Enterprises, 1998). This volume also contains poems written by others.
“Pining” about a ghostly cat was published in Haunted Encounters Real-life Stories of Supernatural Experiences (Atriad Press, 2003).
DARE TO BE PUBLISHED: 50 Authors Help You Write, Market and PUBLISH in the New Century by Dallas Hodder Franklin (Sell Writing Online, March 2004). This eBook came as a free PDF download and contained interviews with 50 authors including Speculative Fiction Author KELLY STEED. This volume appears to be out-of-print as Dallas has pulled her website.
"Fiber Optic Hamster" about the after death appearance of Jolly, Kelly's Hamster, was published in Haunted Encounters: Personal Stories of Departed Pets (Atriad Press April, 2004).
"As the Millennium Turned" about the visit of a deceased friend on the eve of the Millennium was accepted in January 2002 for publication in the anthology Spiritual Visitations compiled by Heather Froeschl, The QuillDipper. Heather signed with Zumaya Publications in April 2005. Spiritual Visitations release date is 2008.

"Who's Been Walking On My Bed?", about Kelly's husband Richard's astral projection scaring her in the middle of the night was published in the August 2001 issue of FATE Magazine under their True Mystical Experiences column.
"Bedside Vigil For the Saved" published in FATE Magazine in the January-February 2002 issue tells the tale of the after death visit of Kelly's grandmother on a night Kelly nearly lost her own life. It was published under the column My Proof of Survival.
"He Did It To Me Again!" published in April 2003 in FATE Magazine under the True Mystical Experiences column. It is a follow up to "Whose Been Walking On My Bed?", which appeared in their August 2001 issue detailing another of Richard's nocturnal frights.
