"Those who hear, or repeat and gladly assent to the Divine Story of Sri Rama,
pass over the sea of birth and death as they would a mere puddle"
- Lord Shiva to Parvati Devi

"May that cheerful face of Rama, which did not lose its splendor when he was banished to the forest nor become more radiant when he was about to be coronated- may that lotus face of Rama bring tender delight and sweet auspiciousness in our lives from day to day"
- Tulsi Ramayana

1. Bala Kanda

"I adore Lord Hari, known by the name of Sri Rama, who is supreme over all causes, Whose Maya (Illusive power) holds sway over all beings from Lord Brahma (Creator) downwards; By Whose light truth is made manifest, as when what appeared to be a snake turns out to be a rope; and Whose feet are the only bark for those who are eager to cross safely over the ocean of mundane existance"

2. Ayodhya Kanda

"I reverence Sri Rama, the Lord of the Raghus, Whose limbs are as dark and soft as a blue lotus, who has Sita occupying His left side and Who holds a mighty arrow and a graceful bow"

3. Aranya Kanda

"I adore Sri Rama, the delighter of all, Whose graceful form is an embodiment of bliss and is dark as a rainy cloud, Who is clad in charming yellow clothes and carries in His hand a bow and an arrow;
Who has a beautiful, shining and well-equipped quiver fastened to His waist and has a pair of large lotus eyes, Who is adorned with a tuft of matted locks on His head and Who is seen journeying with Sita and Lakshmana"

4. Kishkinda Kanda

"Rama and Lakshmana, lovely as jasmine and blue lotus, of surpassing strength, repositories of wisdom, endowed with natural grace, excellent bowmen, hymned by the Vedas, appeared in the form of mortal men through their own Maya as the two noble scions of the Raghu, the armours of dharma, friendly to all and journeying in the quest of Sita. May they both grant us devotion to Thy Feet"

5. Sundara Kanda

"O Lord of the Raghus! There is no other craving in my heart. I speak the truth and You are the Spirit indwelling in the hearts of all. Grant me intense devotion to Your Feet and free my mind from faults, O crest-jewel of Raghus!"

6. Yudha Kanda

"I adore Sri Rama, the supreme Deity, the object of worship even of Siva - the destroyer of cupid, the dispeller of the fear of rebirth, the lion to quell the mad elephant in the form of death, the master of yogis, the storehouse of permanent knowledge, good qualities, unconquerable, attributeless, immutable beyond the realm of Maya, the only protector of the learned, Who has lotus-like eyes and appeared in the form of the King of Raghus"

7. Uttara Kanda

"I unceasingly extol Sri Rama, the praiseworthy lord of Sita, the chief of Raghu's line - rich in splendour, clad in yellow robes, lotus-eyed, ever-propitious, holding a bow and arrow in His hands, mounted on an aerial car named Puspaka and accompanied by a host of vanaras and waited upon by His brother Lakshmana."
