Comparison To A Rose

I planted a rose and watched it grow,
I tended it every livelong day;
With loving care I pampered it,
For it was mine to cultivate.
It burst in bloom, a sight to see;
I gazed in awe and sheer surprise
And touched its petals tenderly;
Its dazzling beauty filled my eyes.

Then I forgot about the rose,
Too busy with other things to see
How sad the little rose became
Without the loving care from me.
So soon it withered upon the bush,
Its petals fell, to my dismay,
And then I knew without my care
My lovely rose had died that day.

I gave my love to someone dear,
He nurtured it every single day;
With loving care he pampered it,
For it was his to cultivate.
My love increased until it seemed
My heart would surely overflow;
He gave me more than I had dreamed
Would ever be my luck to know.

Then he forgot about my love,
Too busy with other things to know
That love, like roses, needs tending daily
In order for it to thrive and grow.
And soon without his loving care
My heart forgot the notes to sing,
Then only memories remained
Of nourished love and joys of spring.
