Fishing time is often a peaceful time where you can sit out and think the nite away as the moon slowly slides across the sky.  After a while you can reach new understandings like, the moon usually comes up about an hour later every nite. So by the second nite of a fishing trip, you can pretty much figure out about what time it is by the location of the moon...

down on the dock on the lake Sometimes when it gets late and the fishing is getting slow we bait up our hooks and toss out our lines before heading off to sleep.  Usually by morning little bottom feeders have sucked the bait off the hooks or a big carp or who knows what, will come and rip the hooks off our lines...

One morning though,  all heck must have broken loose while we were sleeping.  The lines were all tangled and were strewn around the dock.   I thought maybe we had encountered a flying fish.
I was untanglin the lines when I saw these eyes lookin up at me thru the cracks between the boards of the dock.

I got a pry bar and began tearing the boards off the dock.  As soon as I removed the boards the poor trapped creature sprang out of its prison and flopped into the water...  I had a fishing net in hand and quickly scooped it up out of the water...

a wet owl

Aparently, this 'Great Horned Owl' had swooped too close to our fishing poles, got tangled in our lines, and took refuge under the dock.

I quickly untangled the fishing line from the birds wings.  The owl was wet and was not able to fly.  He hopped around the yard and clicked his beak together with a clicking noise when we approached too closely.  After about an hour of sitting on this wall he flew down to the neighbor's dock.  A few hours later he had recovered enough to fly across the lake, back to his woods.

   Wildlife Links

I cannot tell you how relieved I was when that Owl flew away back to the safety of his woods.  We need to preserve all wild creatures and their environments.  There are  organizations that care for wildlife and rehabilitate wounded animals returning them to the wild...

This section is available to provide links to some of those organizations.  They are mostly underfunded and would be appreciative of all much needed donated items and funds...
