This
shot shows the front fender plug on the car with flanges added to make the first
mold section. In order to pull the parts from the mold, the fronts had to be
made in 3 pieces. One aspect that complicated this mold a bit was the decision
to make the headlight bucket integral to the fender. This gives a cleaner look
and offers a little weight reduction.
Here
the tooling gelcoat has been applied and the first layers of chopped strand mat.
This
shot shows the first two mold sections complete and the third (headlight bucket
area) about to begin. Before the three sections are pulled from the plug, holes
for alignment and bolts will be drilled in order to assemble the mold to make
the actual fender.
This
is the mold as pulled from the plug prior to polishing.
