Lotus Eleven

This car is a Lotus Eleven replica manufactured by Westfield cars in England. They only produced about 135 cars, so these are pretty rare. According to Westfield, the molds for the body were taken directly from a series-2 Lotus Eleven. The chassis is similar to the Lotus but not identical. The original Elevens were built for racing and were not "over-designed" to handle pot holes on the road. The drive-train for the Westfield is MG Midget or Austin Healey Sprite, commonly referred to as "Spridget" because parts are the same. Some cars have been built with Lotus engines and a few with Coventry Climax race motors.

I plan on trying to use a Ford Zetec dual cam 4 cylinder engine with a European Sierra 5 speed transmission. In a car that will weigh in at about 1150 lbs. , it should be a fun ride.

The car was purchased as you see it here. A rolling chassis and a pile of parts. Someone purchased it in 1982 from Rev-Pro Engineering in Florida, the importer at the time, started the project and never finished it. It changed hands a few years later and the next owner never did anything with it. I'll put this one away for a while while other projects are being worked. These cars are as simple as you can get so I don't think it will be to difficult to get it on the road.

L-DE61-2.jpg (55114 bytes) This is what a well prepared Westfield can look like. Not all are this nice. The final look on the car depended greatly on the skill of the builder. These were definitely a simple bolt together car.
L-DE61-4.jpg (55647 bytes) Little "doors" and wide sills make getting in and out of these a challenge. these cars were not designed with comfort in mind.

The Rev-Pro Price List   Interesting reading. You can do the math to covert from 1982 dollars, these cars were not inexpensive!
