The Little Cars

Restoration

Here are some photos of the main body restoration.

Send me an e-mail if you have any information or know anyone who might know about these cars. Thanks!

LC012.jpg (56781 bytes) Restoration started with the main body. New floor pan, rear panel, and patches that can be seen in the forward section.
LC014.jpg (65116 bytes) This photo shows the two original nose sections after being cut from the main body. The shape on one was good enough to make templates to create a buck as well as flexible patterns. In the upper right corner is a new nose ready to weld to the front of the main body.
LCo15.jpg (55001 bytes) New nose in place on the main body.
LC017.jpg (25666 bytes) One of the original fenders after removing all the paint and working out the dents.

The marked lines are the original weld seams. My guess is the manufacturer made simple press tools to form the small panels which were then gas-welded together and hand finished. The original welds are very well done.

LC016.jpg (68002 bytes) Starting on the new front fenders. One fender from each car was used to make a wire -frame buck. A grid of 1/4" steel rod is shaped and welded together. Polyester body filler is spread over the rods to copy the exact contour.
