ERA 289 FIA Cobra

This car is owned by my friend and fellow Recycled Racing Team member, Larry. We have both been talking about building one of these cars for years. Of course when Larry decides to go ahead and build something, it's top-shelf or it doesn't happen. This car is a perfect example. I don't think there is one option ERA offers that is not on this car. Fully adjustable track rear-end, huge brakes, pin-drive wheels, etc. This car even has the replica brake and clutch fluid reservoirs, which to me look like little black paint cans (just don't ask how much they cost!).

FIA-001.jpg (42205 bytes) A "few" hours of D/A and block sanding work gets the car looking worse than when you started. The quality of the body from ERA is impressive to say the least.
FIA-002.jpg (49665 bytes) Along with filling the seams from the mold parting lines many hours of work go into rounding all the raw fiberglass edges to look more like the wire-rolled edge on an aluminum body.
FIA-003.jpg (57889 bytes) Rather than show many boring photos of various shades of primer, we'll fast-forward to the finished product. Needless to say, there were many hours of sanding, masking, and spraying between this photo and the last.
FIA-004.jpg (52697 bytes) This turned out to be an awesome color combination. These are 2003 Nissan 350Z colors, Daytona Blue and Pikes Peak White. The white is actually a 3-stage process, base, pearl, clear.

Of course, the best is yet to come on this project. So stat tuned. Rumor has it this car will be receiving a very interesting motor. For sure it will have the required 48 IDA Weber carburetors (why not, I think Larry has a 1/2 dozen complete sets!). I'm not sure of every detail on the motor going into this car but it has something to do with some guy named Dan Gurney. Hmmm. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
