Abstract The combination of laser scanners and Pro/Engineer contribute to a faster and more accurate reverse engineering process. Take an 11-year-old tool, throw in several rounds of undocumented changes on paper drawings and finish it all off with the impending need for a new tool in which you have complete confidence. Before the age of reverse engineering using laser scanners and 3-D CAD databases, this scenario would create a large, time-consuming project for an unlucky toolmaker. Today, thanks to high-tech tools being utilized in the reverse engineering process, scenarios like these are rectified simply and quickly. XX
