Abstract Solid modeling software from UGS (Cypress, CA) - a leading supplier of Internet-based product life cycle collaboration solutions - helped Millard Design Australia (Knoxfield, Australia) - a design and prototyping establishment - and 130 other automotive suppliers create Australia's most technologically advanced vehicle in 12 months with virtually no misalignments or interferences - the "aXcess australia" concept car. The aXcess concept car was designed and built as a cooperative effort among Australian automotive companies to highlight Australia's automotive capabilities and capture the attention of the world's automobile manufacturers. The contribution by the project's participants to the design and building of the car has been valued at approximately $13 million. The aXcess concept car incorporates numerous advanced design features and technologies including an exposed carbon fiber frame, voice activation of many functions, extensive use of magnesium and other lightweight alloys.
