30. Rapid Manufacture of Multi-Material Objects

Author Wei-ming Zhu and Kai-ming Yu

Source Time Compression Technologies. v7 n2 March 2002, pp 22-6

Abstract Objects to be fabricated can be composed of a single part or an assembly of parts. The parts in the assembly can have relative motion or remain stationary. The part can be made of a single material or more than one material (e.g., glass fiber reinforced nylon gear). For a single material case, it may be homogeneous or functionally graded. This article only highlights an approach developed for rapid prototyping of multi-material (MM) assembly. Key steps include MM assembly modeling, dexel representation, toolpath generation and planning to obtain a physical MM assembly. XX
