Abstract A patented reactive casting process, which makes glass-reinforced nylon 6 prototypes and production parts quickly and easily from low-cost molds is described. Compcast Technologies, LLC of Barnegat Light, N.J., holds the rights to license the Compcasting process. Computer aided design (CAD) is employed for creating the molds. The cost and long lead times for metal injection molds and the compounding of nylon 6 resin with fiberglass is eliminated. Parts made by Compcasting have been shown to be identical in form, fit and function to parts fabricated in a high-pressure injection mold. (Auth abstract) XX
