Abstract The use of CNC milling and associated operations in developing new medical techniques such as skull reconstruction is discussed. The process begins with a computerized tomography (CT) scan of the patient's skull. The resulting voxel data are processed by an in-house developed CAD/CAM system to generate tool paths for a highly accurate model that is milled from polyurethane foam. The NHS-managed operation provides a variety of mechanical workshop and technical mechanical services by using a wide range of production equipment. (Auth abstract) XX
