Abstract The development of a diode-bar pumped, Q-switched Nd:YVO sub 4 laser was presented to generate average power of 12 W at 355 nm in a polarized mode. The main driving forces for the design of high-power diode-pumped, Q-switched solid state lasers were printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing and stereolithography. An effective means for scaling the output power of end pumped solid state lasers with efficiencies approaching the quantum limit was provided by dual rod laser design. A diode-bar end-pumped Nd:VYO sub 4 was developed which generated 12 W of average power at 355 nm with a total optical frequency of 11.5%. (Edited abstract) 3 Refs. (Auth abstract) XX
