Abstract A number of different polymeric systems are now available to support the generation of rapid injection tooling. The first group of products are castable epoxies that perform at elevated temperatures and exhibit good compressive, tensile and flexural strengths as well as low shrinkage. A more recent addition to the materials used for rapid tooling is a mineral-filled thermosetting composite board that can be quickly machined to form extremely accurate molds with the required heat resistance, strength and chemical resistance. This presentation will describe the capabilities of both castable and machinable materials for the rapid production of prototype injection tooling. (Auth abstract) XX
