New plastic, metal materials expand rapid manufacturing capabilities for aerospace, medical industries
Novi, MI - April 8, 2009 - EOS GmbH Electro Optical Systems, the world-leading manufacturer of laser-sintering systems, plans a number of activities at Booth # 415 at this year's Rapid 2009 Conference & Exposition (May 12-May14). The company, which is the presenting sponsor of Rapid 2009, will be displaying parts made from their newly introduced plastics and metals, as well as demonstrating production on the EOSINT M 270 for direct metal laser-sintering (DMLS), and the Formiga P 100 for plastics.
"The demand for rapid manufacturing, particularly in the aerospace and medical industries, is entering a period of extraordinary growth," says Jim Fendrick, vice president of EOS North America. "In response to that growth we have developed materials especially suited for such applications."

Among the materials being introduced at the show are:
Metals
- EOS NickelAlloy IN718™, a nickel superalloy that is frequently used in high-temperature applications and other components subject to high stress levels.
- EOS NickelAlloy IN625™, a nickel superalloy that is highly resistant to oxidation and corrosion and extremely strong at high and low temperatures, making it well suited for aerospace and chemical processing applications.
- EOS NickelAlloy HX™, a high-temperature, corrosion-resistant Hastalloy able to withstand harsh environments.
Plastics
- EOS PEEK HP3™, a high-performance polyaryl ether ketone polymer, which is the first high-temperature polymer available for laser-sintering. It is durable, heat-resistant, biocompatible and sterilizable, making it ideal for aerospace and medical applications. PEEK parts are made exclusively on the new EOSINT P 800 for high-temperature laser-sintering.
Additional technical data about these new materials, as well as updated information about existing metal and plastic offerings from EOS, will be available at the booth.
About EOS
EOS was founded in 1989 and is today the world's leading manufacturer of laser-sintering systems. Laser-sintering is the key technology for e-Manufacturing, the fast, flexible and cost-effective production of products, patterns or tools. The technology manufactures parts for every phase of the product life cycle, directly from electronic data. Laser-sintering accelerates product development and optimises production processes. EOS completed its business year 2007/2008 with revenues of approximately 70 million Euros which is an increase of 17 percent compared to the previous year. The company employs 280 people worldwide, 230 of them at its headquarters in Krailling near Munich, Germany.
