2/12/2010: "A Comprehensive Systems Approach to Feeding in Children with Developmental Disabilities”
Handi Medical Supply Annual Conference, St. Paul, Minnesota, (651) 644-9770 or jbuytaert@HandiMedical.com.
[This session presents a systems approach to feeding disorders in children with developmental disabilities, with emphasis on the transition from dependent to independent eating. The comprehensive perspective is described as a series of vertical developmental sequences in which oral and fine motor skills are interwoven horizontally with corresponding gross motor, visual, cognitive, communicative, social, and emotional levels. Normal and atypical development will be compared through stages of dependent, assistive, and independent eating in infants and toddlers with normal function and in children with mild, moderate, and severe dysfunction. Clinical videos will be used to identify needs, analyze data, and plan intervention.]
