Visual-Perceptual-Motor Problems: Strategies for Intervention
Description: This workshop is for professionals who work with children who have learning and organizational deficits that impact function in home, school, and community environments. Clinical observations and creative problem-solving skills are used with structured training activities to identify and treat visual-perceptual-motor dysfunction in an integrated rather than separate manner. Strategies include specific adaptation, individualization, and ongoing modification of each activity. Two case studies are presented in-depth to illustrate the clinical decision-making process. Learning experiences are provided through lectures, discussion, videos and other visuals, printed handouts, participation labs, and small group activities.
Objectives:Participants will be able to:
• relate problems in gross and fine motor coordination, academics (reading, writing, math,
• spelling, and general work habits) to specific visual-perceptual-motor dysfunction,
• understand theoretical foundations for these dysfunctional areas, and
• select and administer individualized activities for persons with learning and organizational deficits.
