Eye-Hand Coordination: A Model for Intervention
in Children with Developmental Disabilities

Description: This workshop presents a contemporary systems approach to eye-hand coordination disorders in children with developmental disabilities. Neurophysiological, developmental, and functional frames of references are interwoven with parallel and sequential components of cognitive motivation, visual exploration, tactile exploration, eye-hand interaction, and purposeful activity. Identifying needs, analyzing data, and planning treatment strategies results in practical applications to clinical practice.

Objectives: Participants will be able to:
• understand components of eye-hand mechanisms within theoretical frames of reference,
• discuss disorders of eye-hand coordination and functional implications in the home, school, and community,
• select appropriate assessment instruments to collect relevant data, and
• use the proposed model to identify needs and recommend intervention strategies in environmental contexts.
