Found: A letter from the New Orleans Cotton Exchange to Mrs. Sam Gautier
at her husband's death. This letter is dated May 1st, 1917, signed John f.
Clark, president, and stated that Mr. Gautier "at the time of his demise
occupied offices of Inspector-in-Chief and Chief Supervisor. As chairman of
the
Committee on spot Quotations of this Exchange and manager of its
classification
department, he will be remembered as entitled to the highest rank as a
classer
and judge of cotton asn as an energetic and zealous employee of this
Exchange."
A member of the Committee representing the New Orleans Cotton
Exchange -- which extablished national standards for all grades of cotton
for
the U. S. Department of Agriculture.
