Charlie Walker

This is a work-in-progress page, as I  don't have the song titles Roy
worked on with Charlie Walker.  The following brief biography has
him recording with RCA so I'm sure it was during the time Roy was
with RCA that he worked with Charlie Walker.  My favorite bu him
was "My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You."

Born 2 November 1926, Copeville, Collins County, Texas, USA. A
talented musician, Walker joined Bill Boyd 's Cowboy Ramblers
in 1943 and worked as a disc jockey for the Armed Forces
Radio Network during World War II. By the early 50s, he was
voted one of country music's Top 10 DJs and his vocal talent
saw him join Decca. His first chart hit was 'Only You, Only
You', but after moving to Columbia in 1958, he enjoyed a
number 2 hit with Harlan Howard 's song 'Pick Me Up On Your
Way Down', which established him as a major artist. Between
1960 and 1974, Walker achieved 23 more country hits, having
Top 10 success with 'Wild As A Wild Cat' and 'Don't Squeeze
My Sharmon'. He later recorded for Epic, RCA, Capitol and
Plantation. Many of his most popular recordings are honky tonk
songs such as 'Close All The Honky Tonks', 'Honky Tonk Season'
and 'Honky Tonk Women' (a number 1 British pop hit for the
Rolling Stones). He joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1967 (having
first guested in 1954) and still makes appearances.
He appeared in the film Country Music and is
still active, although mainly as a broadcaster. His last chart hit
was 'Odds And Ends (Bits And Pieces)'.
