Hemmi's most interesting closed body slide rule.  Designed for analysis of motors, dynamos, and other electrical devices.  Scales E, F, A [B, CI, C] D, LL2, LL3 and [S, L, T] || K.  (The K scale is on the bottom edge of the slide rule and is read with the aid of a tab projecting from the bottom edge of the cursor.)  The E scale is for calculating the efficiency of dynamos and motors; the F scale is for calculating voltage drops.  Gauge marks at 28.7 on the A and B scales represent one half the specific conductivity of a copper wire 1m long and 1mm² in cross section.  Cursor has three hairlines for easy conversion between watts and hp.  Complete with two-piece green Hemmi case, original factory plastic bag  and newly copied instructions.

These rules have never been used and show no wear; I opened the original factory sealed plastic bags myself.  But they date from the very first year this model was manufactured (date code "DI") and have been stored for 55 years.  Overall appearance is good but there is some yellowing and close examination reveals a few spots of flaking plating on the cursor.

Rules are complete with factory instructions and Hemmi leather sheath--all in original Hemmi box.  Rule is marked "Hemmi No. 149A" and "ODELCO;" box is marked "SUN HEMMI NO. 149A, HEMMI SLIDE RULE."

Rule is all “Aristopal” plastic.  Case (imprinted “ARISTO Germany”) is top-quality imitation leather sewn over a plastic frame.  The Aristo #1364 “Scale of Preferred Numbers” is a varnished pasteboard ruler containing several logarithmic scales for plotting logarithmic graphs and a table of important constants and conversion factors.

These slide rules came directly from the distributor; they have never been used.  Edges are sharp; lettering is crisp.  No scratches, chips or dings.   However, 40 years of storage in their cases have had effect:  Color from the brown plastic end brackets has migrated onto the white body plastic; this appears as a brown stain near the fasteners at the left end of the slide rule in the picture.  (Picture shows typical.)  It is possible that this staining will disappear in time.  The varnish on the #1364 “Scale of Preferred Numbers” has melted and cracked in places.  Although the cases appear in mint condition they are somewhat brittle.  Some of the boxes are crushed at one end (picture shows worst box); best boxes ship first.
