Parts for Dietzgen Slide Rules

We don't carry parts for Dietzgen slide rules.  The problem is that many Dietzgen rules were manufactured by other companies who used their own cursor designs and construction details.  Those manufacturers changed from time to time; cursors were rarely interchangeable between Dietzgen models or even for the same model over its lifetime.

The Relay Industrial Company (also know as "San Ai Keiki") was the second largest manufacturer of bamboo slide rules in Japan after World War II.  The company was purchased by, and the name changed to, Ricoh in the 1960s.  Relay/Ricoh bamboo slide rules were marketed under various brand names including Alvin, Compass, Dietzgen, Engineer's, Jason, Lafayette, Lutz, Micronta, Olson, Pickett, Relay, Ricoh, San Ai, Sans & Streiffe, SIC, Skyline, Wallace and Wallace and others.  They frequently did not carry any Relay or Ricoh identification and can be difficult to differentiate from Hemmi-made bamboo rules.  There are two sure ways to tell a Relay/Ricoh bamboo rule from a Hemmi rule: 1. R/R bamboo duplex rules always have plastic cursor lenses whereas Hemmi bamboo duplex rules always have glass lenses.  (This doesn't help identify the manufacturer of closed-body rules; both manufacturers used both glass and plastic on their closed-body rules.)   2. Hemmi rules always carry the Hemmi brand name somewhere--sometimes just stamped into the cursor.  If it's not marked "Hemmi" somewhere, it's R/R.
