I don't think there are any words more moving, more heartfelt, and more heart-wrenching, than those stated by the loving parents of this extraordinary young man. "Ian, we miss you more than words can say ... Love, Mom and Pops Forever." The tragic loss of child is beyond our comprehension of pain. But when the tragic loss is that of an "only child," the incomprehensible pain thus becomes two-fold. For the every day purpose of living, the hopes, and all the dreams of both parents are cruelly snatched away. Yet, we on the outside looking in, expect them to carry on with their lives. How is such a thing humanly possible? I have learned many things from Ian's parents. Things, that those who have never experienced this type of horrendous suffering don't have a clue about. I am sure that just as Ian gained much valuable knowledge and understanding from them as his teachers, I too have done the same. And for that I shall always honor, respect, and admire them. None of us will ever do anything more worthy or important here on the face of this earth than to be a loving parent. This goes without saying. For those parents forced to survive the greatest loss ever known here on earth, yet, who somehow manage to continue on with their role of parenting, by teaching others in the face of such human adversity, is an incredible achievement few will ever know. Thank goodness there are parents like Ron and Pat, who continue to share their love for Ian with the rest of the world. I know that I have learned how very important every single moment spent with my son truly is ... and how not to take for granted each precious moment I can spend with him ... even if it is nothing more than a quick phone call to hear the sound of his voice once more. Thank you, Ron and Pat, and Ian, for those invaluable lessons you continue to share with me. The seeds of your family have spread into mine and for that, I shall always be most grateful. More grateful than any words can ever say ... As always, k.t. Frankovich

IAN, WELL THESE PAST YEARS HAVE NOT BEEN THE EASIEST FOR ME WITHOUT MY LIFE LONG FRIEND BY MY SIDE TO GUIDE ME, HELP ME AND TALK TO ME WHEN I NEED SOMEONE. IAN WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE MY BEST FRIEND AND MY BROTHER. BESIDES HIS FAMILY, I CAN SAY I AM ONE OF THE LUCKIEST OUT OF ALL THE PEOPLE THAT NEW IAN. WE HAVE BEEN BUDDIES SINCE 3 YRS OLD. THAT IS A FRIENDSHIP THAT HAS LATEST THE TESTS OF TIME OVER 20 YRS WHICH IS A LIFETIME. WE SPEND YEARS GROWING UP TOGETHER EXPLORING THIS CRAZY WORLD, ALL THOSE SUMMERS WE SPENT SWIMMING, PLAYING, BUILDING FORTS AND JUST BEING KIDS. THOSE ARE ALL MEMORIES THAT I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER. AS WE GREW UP TOGETHER THERE WASN'T ANYTHING WE DIDN'T SHARE WITH ONE ANOTHER AND TALK ABOUT. AS WE ALL HAVE THROUGHOUT LIFE, SOME TOUGH TIMES. AND MY TOUGH TIMES I RELIED ON MY BEST FRIEND IAN TO HELP ME TALK TO ME AND JUST ASSURE ME EVERYTHING WAS GOING TO BE ALL RIGHT. AND YOU KNOW WHAT EVERYTHING WAS ALL RIGHT. AND FOR HIM IN MY LIFE I WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL. AS YEARS BEGIN TO GO BY AND I GET OLDER AND MY LIFE MOVES FORWARD, I STILL FEEL AS IF I AM MISSING SOMETHING FROM IT, AND I AM. I AM MISSING MY BEST FRIEND TO SHARE IN MY FAILURES AND SUCCESS'S. AS NATHAN SAID AND IS RIGHT ABOUT JUST BECAUSE HE IS NOT WITH US DOWN HERE DOES NOT MEAN HE DOESN'T HEAR US AND WE CAN'T TALK TO HIM. HE WILL ALWAYS BE WITH ME AND IN MY HEART AND MY LIFE UNTIL THE DAY I DIE. TO MY BROTHER AND BEST FRIEND IAN I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU EVERYDAY. HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN ONE DAY. AND TO THOSE OF YOU THAT DID NOT KNOW IAN, YOU MISSED OUT ON ONE OF THE MOST EXTRAORDINARY PERSONS IN THE WHOLE WORLD. THIS IS PERSON THAT HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY. ONCE AGAIN FAREWELL AND I MISS YOU. LOVE, STEVE

Ian is the second brother I lost, and just about 6 months to the day, after my first. Although Ian is my brother from another mother, he is my brother and will always be. Even though we don't get to see and hear him like we used to, those who loved and knew Ian still do. At least I do. Ian lives on by the happiness, joy, laughter, love and memories that he gave so effortlessly like he possessed an endless supply. I grew up with Ian, starting from second grade, and still I am influenced by him and continue to grow from his wisdom and kindness. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Ian will always be with us because Ian is a part of us. Like "Star Wars" describes the "FORCE", Ian's energy has and does flow through everyone he met, which in turn, everyone they meet and influence. The "FORCE" can not be halted nor ignored. Ian is my best friend, my brother. We, Pat and Ron, will NEVER be able to forget the many, many times we had growing up together...food fights, moons out of the coke can, Ron carrying N8 the drooling flopper up the stairs of the condo, Ian's broken ankle in middle school, the Trans Am...our whole childhood! Ian is so much a part of us that he could never be forgotten. Just know this. I love Ian, his family, and everthing I have earned and learned through sharing life and it's experiences with the Klairs. I am truly sorry that Ian left us as early as he did, but I am also so very thankful for everything he left us with. I feel I am lucky to be his friend. There will never be another Ian. Pattie, Ron, I thank you for Ian, and for everything else we have every done. I love you two. Stay strong. Live life to the fullest. To my boy Ian, I miss you, I love you. Take care of Paul for me. I love you guys so much and miss you guys more than I can say. LOVE, N8

Ian - my beloved grandson. I miss you more than mere words can ever convey. My world is so empty without you. I miss your smiles, the sound of your laughter, your love, your comfort, and advice when things were difficult for me. You were wise far beyond your years. The desire to help others was so strong in you, it set in motion your career choice. The world will never know all the good you could have accomplished. One of my most cherished memories of you as an (almost) adult was when we were in Europe in 1992. You encountered snow - real snow - for the first time in your life. We were crossing the Swiss Alps, and as we approached the peak, it was snowing. In your excitement, you jumped from the van without your hat or gloves. You and your Uncle Larry ran up an incline and started a snow ball battle. I will never forget the expression on your face when you returned to the van. The snow was a heavy, wet snow, and it clung to your long eyelashes and hair. Your eyes sparkled like diamonds, and there was such an expression of wonder and joy in your beautiful dark eyes! You hugged me and said, "but Nana, it (meaning the snow) is so-o-o-o cold." The native Floridian in you was awed. Two years have now passed, but the emptiness and pain still remain. Sometimes, just looking at your picture brings back a flood of memories and the teardrops start. "If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again." (Author unknown.) Love you forever, Nana (Esther Klair, Paternal Grandmother)

Word of mouth is the closest choice for the Reference. Actually it was an email from one of the greatest guys that Jackie and I have ever met--Ron Klair. We were kept informed about Ian by email from Ron from the day of the accident and we were honored (along with Ron's other friends) to be asked to pray for Ian. With everything about the accident and subsequent rescue so miraculous and with so much prayer, we found it almost unbelievable that Ian had died. Throughout my life I have always found that the Lord's Will has been perfect. The three major things in my life that seemed to go wrong according to my understanding (and that I couldn't understand why the Lord allowed to happen) all turned out better in retrospect than what I wanted the Lord to do. I pray earnestly that Ian's life and untimely death will cause such a miraculous change in people's hearts and lives that someday you, his parents, will be able to know that here also our wonderful Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ had a greater purpose for Ian than we could ever imagine. Nothing can ever make up for your loss, but I pray that you both will be drawn closer to the Lord as time goes by and that you will be richly blessed by the knowledge of what the Lord has accomplished by Ian's life. I know my wife and I were, and are, profoundly moved by Ian's life and death. We didn't even know him, or you, until his accident and the viewing, but we'll never forget him or you. You have a wonderful brother, but I'm sure you know that. Love, Hawk and Jackie Eggerton

Such a sad and beautiful story; it challenges us all to make sense of our humble lives and to make more of our brief time here. Ian was a second cousin to Scott, who's from the Howard Klair/ Southern California branch of the family. We met Ian once in '85 when we were young and on the road and Ian was yet a school boy. The whole family was so kind. Over the years, we heard through Scott's Uncle Ron (Ian's grandfather) of Ians' accomplishments: all proud and worthy. Through Uncle Ron we followed the day-by-day vigil two years ago, via e-mail, when Ian had his tragedy. Over the nearly two weeks in the intensive care unit, we worried and hoped for Ian's parents and loved ones: in such times a family renews its love and finds strength it never knew it had. We wished such strength for Ian's family. Truly, Ian had been a gifted and giving young man, with insight and compassion beyond his years. What can be the meaning or message in his untimely death? It is a call to each of us to use our days wisely, motivated by concern and caring as he was. it is a message to love each other and cherish our fragile days together. Life is sweet and may be all too short.
