Minutes of the December 2nd Meeting @ McMurphy's
Call to Order: 6:15 PM, 11 Members Present
Secretary's Report: Minutes from the previous meeting approved as read.
Treasurer's Report: Currently 44 memberships are paid. Some more need to be processed. Scholarship money for this fiscal year needs to be in soon. Current scholarship funds match the previous year's amounts except for last year, which was longer due to the adjustment from the academic year to the calendar year. See Randy's report for more information.
President's Comments: Apologizes if he jinxed the badgers.
2004-2005 Committee Reports
Ronald McDonald House Dinner: Excellent work by Katie Brown and Jean Boray. The food was well received, and the people at the house really appreciated the leftovers. We were asked to do it again. A thank you note was received. Discussion of doing this twice a year circulated. Discussion at the January meeting about a possible date in March or April.
Christmas Anonymous: Sign up sheets were circulated again. Food boxes will be put together on December 5th and 6th (if necessary). This will start at 6:30pm. At Christ United Methodist Church. Hosting families will be on the 11th at the same location. Help is needed on the later shifts.
Founder's Day: The general impression is that the same location (Comfort Inn) as the last couple of years is acceptable. The room reservation fee has increased to $150. A motion passed that we will accept the fee if the bar minimum can be negotiated off. Barry will keep working on this. Gerry will contact Jamie Pollard to see the focus of his presentation so other dignitaries can be invited. The dinner will be Thursday, May 12th.
Newsletter: Planning for the January newsletter has begun. The Ronald McDonald house dinner will be covered. The letter will continue to be designed to fit a website format.
Rochester Chapter Webpage: The webpage contact and other info have been updated. The address is http://home.att.net/~rochesterbadgers. Barry will get Gerry the missing meeting minutes (including this meeting.)
Scholarship Effort: The goal for this year is to give 10 - $1,000 scholarships. A reminder is given for everyone to donate now for the 2004 Tax Deduction. The next yearly IBM match will be in March of next year, and will be the only one before the next scholarship banquet.
Business (Old, New, Other)
Board of Directors meeting place and time: The next meeting will be at McMurphy's at 6pm on January 6th, 2005. It was agreed that the time and place would continue to work until March. Further discussion at the next meeting. This was under the agreement that Angie will be our waitress each time J
UW Speaker on Bio topic: WAA is in support of the idea. A Mayo Clinic committee will need to be formed to run it. Eric is talking to some friends to set it up. More discussion at the January meeting is needed.
Wisconsin Singers: The general though is that this wouldn't work in Minnesota. The idea is tabled.
Kid's Fest (February '05): The date needs to be found out. Sign up sheets will be passed out at the January meeting. It will be either the 1st or 2nd Sunday in February. After looking at the numbers, the profits went down with the price raise to $1.25 from $1. It is the thought of the directors that the price should be held at $1.
Dr. Bob Feldt: Dr. Feldt passed away over the Thanksgiving holiday. He was a huge supporter of the Ronald McDonald house. Many members remember seeing him serving snowcones in his goulashes. A motion was passed to donate $50 to the Ronald McDonald house in his memory. Discussion of some sort of memorial to him at Kid's Fest circulated. Discussion about naming a scholarship after him also circulated. More discussion will occur at the January meeting.
Logo Clothing: John Boray said he could still take orders for Rochester UW Alumni denim shirts. W/out name, shirts are $26. W/name, shirts are $30. UW logo clothing can also be ordered from Land's End at www.landsend.com.
Adjournment: 7:15 pm.
