February 3rd Minutes
The meeting was called to order by Terry Schardt
at
Randy Horn gave the treasurer's report. The club checking account
currently has a balance of $1279. Current membership is 52.
Kid's Fest will be this Sunday 2/13 at the
The winter newsletter was distributed last week. 80 went out
by email, 40 by surface mail.
Gerry Meyer reported on the funds available for scholarships this
year, estimated to be at least $25K for scholarships. It was decided
that we will award 10 scholarships of $1500 each again this year.
Barry Paye
reported on Founder's Day preparations. The event will be held on May 12, at Holiday Inn South. The cost wil be $17 per person. The soliciting of athletic
memorabilia was approved by the NCAA compliance officer (Steve Waterfield). Letters have been sent to 8 athletic
departments. Assistant athletic director Jamie Pollard will be our
featured speaker. Alicia Jackson will be representing the WAA. It
was decided that we would invite Jeff Sauer and Michael Bennett to also be our
guests at the event. In addition, Gerry
will invite a guidance counselor from one of the local high schools to attend.
The club received a thank you note from Barb Feldt
for the Club’s memorial to the Ronald McDonald House.
The UW Guest Speaker Program for Mayo Clinic is being
organized. The program will be sponsored by the WAA and our club
chapter. A UW Alumni Committee, consisting of alumni who are also Mayo
employees, is being established. John Boray has volunteered to be the temporary
head of the Committee.
