So you've tried for weeks, maybe even months to make your mIRC program play the sounds that everyone else's does. You've figured out the long way and can use the /sound command to play them, but you can't get mIRC to 'autoget' or 'autosend' like all your chat pals do. You've asked for help, and maybe even gotten it, but it's just left you feeling confused and unsatisfied. The first thing you need to do is to create a directory for your sound files in Windows Explorer. I put mine in C:\sounds, so I'll use that as the example when it is needed later on in this tutorial. mIRC can handle two types of sound files, .wav and .mid file types, so you will also want to create a sub directory in c:\sounds for each type, I chose c:\sounds\wav and c:\sounds\midi Step One.
From the menubar: Choose File, then Options.
Now select the tab called Sounds.
Place checks in the 4 boxes you see then browse to the directory in mIRC where both your .wav and .mid files reside. Next, select the Drag and Drop tab.
Enter the commands into the blank center box exactly as you see. When finished, click OK to return to the main mIRC screen. Step
two. From the menubar; Select DCC, then Options.
After checking the buttons shown below, click on the
'Dirs tab' when this window opens: ![]() When you are at this
window, click on the add button
![]() You will see a window
like this...
![]() Add *.wav on the first line, then click the first button to browse to the c:\sound\wav directory you created earlier, then click ok. Repeat the process for *.mid, this time browse to the c:\sound\midi directory you created. Now you're all set to hear and receive the sounds being played in a chat channel. The next step is to enable the autorequest key, so you do not have to type !nick filename.wav each time you want to request a .wav file from someone else! |
