This stamp is Hungarian, issued for first flight from Budapest to
Szombathely on the first "Rákosi Repülő Nap" (Aviation Day) on 7
November 1920. (Also commemorated with official air post stamps created by
overprinting/surcharging current definitives.) The stamp is listed as
catalogue #72.01 in the 2000 catalogue "Hungarian Poster Stamps and
Similar Cinderellas" by Ch J Blase. This catalogue is an immense work, and
the printed portion is over 500 pages, in Hungarian and English, with the
illustrations on an accompanying CD-ROM. The listing of Hungarian aviation
cinderellas alone is 19 pages, plus an introduction about Hungarian
aviation that runs 37 pages. There were also three cinderellas issued for
the air show that day. The plane pictured on the stamp is probably a
Phoenix C-I, with a 230hp Hiero engine, that was one of 8 former warplanes
purchased from Austria. I hope this is of some help - there is a lot more information in the
catalogue. [Ray Petersen]
