| This is probably just a distinctive cancel, but can anyone tell more about its type or use? |
| This is a "Poststelle II" (sub-office) cancel. These undated devices were given to small post offices to mark their mail, which was then forwarded to and cancelled in the main PO. These cancels were normally struck next to the stamps (on outgoing mail) rather and not on them. This usage would indicate that the stamps were probably added to an incoming package card (and cancelled) to pay the rural delivery fee. [Jay Carrigan] |
