Where is the Isle of Thanet and for what years did it issue stamps?
There may be others, but the original one is a peninsula (since the river that made it an island silted up in the 16th century) at the easternmost tip of SE England. You will find it here, or look up the town of Ramsgate if I got that wrong. Years? There is no Isle of Thanet Steamship Company in the present 'phone book. [Chris Doran]
This is a total fantasy and a harmless piece of fun. It was produced for Brian Smith in the United Kingdom, but was printed in USA by Ted Jenson (the late) proprietor of Fireside Post. There has never been an Isle of Thanet Steamship Company although there has been an Isle of Thanet Tramways Company. The stamp, if I remember rightly, was produced in the 1970's. Ted Jensen produced quite a few local posts, including Fireside Post, Jensen's Post, and Railway Post. He was in his 80's when he died. Together with Wayne Martel, he and I were the founders of the Local Stamp Society of USA. [David M. Stirling]
