This looks like many of the postal tax stamps issued by Spain during the Civil War, but is not listed in any of the references I have. "La Villa de Atienza". What is it?
This is not in "Catalog de los sellos locales emetidos durante la guerra civil Espanola 1936-39" edited by Federation Espanola des Societades Filatelicas Madrid (1995). Atienza is a town in Spain (probably in the Guadajara region). BUT there is a big difference: there is written "POR LA PATRIA", that is for the NATION, while all the other cataloged stamps are in favour of "LOCAL TOWNS". So it could be a fund-raising label, not a Civil local tax, but it is only a my personal idea. [Fabio Vaccarezza]
My belief is, no proof at the moment, that this is one of several patriotics sold ostensibly to support the 1898 war effort against the USA. It may have been to support veterans widows and orphans. [Brian McGrath]
