| This is a souvenir sheet from my gymnastics collection, quite common, except that the yellow color is missing. The background is supposed to be GREEN. Is this a legitimate color-missing error (I've seen others from this era), a color changeling, or some other fraud? |
| My guess would be missing yellow due to a colour fade. Was this item kept in a shop window? Many colours do fade in sunlight and printers' yellow was particularly bad. (When I was younger the corner shop got a 10' x 1' advertising banner for apples and put it in the window. Within a year the apples shown were in a rather unappetizing mauve or pale blue colours!) | The souvenir sheet was purchased many years ago from the New York dealer Martin Band, whose pricelists included many missing-color varieties of this era USSR, which I have never seen advertized elsewhere. If it were color-faded, I would have expected the red have faded as well. [Rick Scott] |
| I have found out lately that several of these souvenir sheets of USSR have a smaller printing with a different background. Most are not mentioned in Scott catalog. [Tricia Richmond] |
