What is the meaning "Pridnestrovye", and where would this Russian local be from?
This is so called Transdnistrovia, an artificial entity set up by Soviet (read Russian) military in Moldovia. The stamps reads "Transdnistrovia - Russia" another imperial attempt! Suspect it was used to defraud collectors. [Val Zabijaka]
Local bogus issue "Pridnestrovye": it is part of territory of Moldova (Eastern Moldova). This is questionable territory between Moldova and Russia, but they want to stay an independent Republic (includes these towns: Bendera, Tiraspol, Dubosari, Ribnitsa). [Protopopov]
The stamps of TransDnestr or Pridnestr Moldovskaya Respoublika are valid for use within the PMR, which is the area of Moldova north-east of the Dnestr river.  Its status is that it is a break-way 'rebel' area which has, nonetheless, a strong degree of autonomy and self-government. I have non-philatelic covers from this area showing PMR stamps used for mail to other parts of Moldova and to foreign countries, Moldovan stamps are used. This should mean to Russia as well, but *possibly* PMR to Russia mail uses PMR stamps. There has been strong support from Moscow. [Ian Billings]
Ah, because of my lack of Russian skills I had not realized that this item is related to other PMR/Tiraspol items in my collection. [Rick Scott]
