From what I understand this stamp is the first of three
"test varieties" for porto stamps for Indonesia in the same period as the
Vienna and Phildelphia issues for 1948/1949. There were three varieties
using the banteng (the cow-like animal). These varieties were not approved
of by the Indonesian "institutions" that ordered the stamps. Ultimately,
they chose a geometrical picture. TAMBAH SEN means surcharge. This first
issue consisted of 13 stamps, also known in an imperforated variety. The
