A fantasy stamp is a stamp issued for a place that exists only in
the imagination. Fantasies and bogus stamps (unreal stamps made for real
places) have been around since the mid-1800's thanks to the inventiveness
of forgers like S. Allan Taylor. Fantasies remain alive and well in the
late 1900's in the work of creators of modern private local posts worldwide
and in the Artistamp and Cyberstamp movements.
Thus I too try my hand. The stamps are mine; the places were born
in the minds of others. None have been printed (yet); they exist only in
cyberspace, but they look better when not so highly compressed for speedy
download. I hope you enjoy my creations for the following realms of the
imagination.
- Niniltna, a place in the fiction of Alaskan mysteries.
- Orlando Local Post, a revival of a retired post.
- Planet Xuxa, a place in the imagination of Children's TV.
UPDATED May 9, 1999: now with six pages of stamps!
- Miscellaneous, a catch-all-else category.
I'm not the only one posting cyberstamps for viewing:
Get a taste of the world of Artistamps. These are supposed to be
works of art that look like stamps. There are many that I think look like
neither. But taste is personal, so start with these Artistamp Galleries
and surf on from there.
