Sand Beach is a relatively small stretch of white sand on the otherwise rocky coast of Acadia National Park. It's typically a visitor's first stop after entering the Park. From the Sand Beach parking area you can visit the Beach and Great Head, and explore the extremely scenic hiking trail adjacent to the Park Loop Road. The picture above, with Sand Beach visible above the word "Beach", was taken from just off the trail. The trail runs all the way to Otter Point, past Thunder Hole and Otter Cliffs.

The view from beach level toward the "Beehive". Often you can spot hikers clinging to the sides of the "Beehive" as they make their way to the summit.

This picture was taken from the trail leading to Great Head. A large portion of the trail, which rises sharply, is over bare rock.

We consider this to be one of the most impressive sights in Acadia National Park. The wave in this picture is probably five feet high. This is the right side of the beach and looks toward the spot from where the picture at the top of this page was taken.
