Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is in an outlying section of Acadia National Park on the southwestern tip of Mount Desert Island, a few miles south of the town of Southwest Harbor. The drive there is not difficult and worth the effort, especially when combined with a trip to Beech Mountain. Parking is immediately behind the lighthouse and you can easily walk to within a few feet of the light tower. However, the view from next to the tower is not particularly impressive. The get to the view shown above you must make a short hike and then climb across the rocks for some distance. The lighthouse is often pictured from the opposite direction from the vantage point of a boat.
