4. John R Gartee was born about 1836. 1860 Census lists his place of birth as Ohio, his son Andrews' Death certificate lists his place of birth as Pennsylvania. His son Edwin's death certificate lists his name as John W. Gartee The legend is the Gartee Family came west from Pennsylvania in the early 1800's and settled in Indiana and Ohio. The generation of children listed below migrated again durring early 1900's. It is thought that the 3 boys came to Michigan and the Daughters to New York state. At least one, if not both of the daughters never married. Frank Gartees decendents later went to Toledo.
He was married to Mary Jane Abott on 30 Jun 1859 in Floyd County,
Indiana. Mary Jane Abott was born about 1838. 1860
Census lists her age as 22, her birthplace as Indiana but Andrew's death certificate
lists her birthplace as OHIO John R Gartee and Mary Jane Abott had the following
children:
