Introduction to Eblen Family Trees

The Eblen Family in America descended from a German ancestor, Hans Michael Eblen who immigrated to America in the early 1700's with his wife. We do not know his wife's given name, but her she is often referenced as Hance. They were married in Holland. They had three sons,  Hans Michael II, Peter and John.  The third son may have been born in either America or Holland. We are now in the tenth generation since Hans brought his family from Holland. The Eblens through out the colonial period seemed to be settled in Virginia, subsequent generations settled in Roane County Tennessee, and it appears from the marriage records, maintained strong ties to other families in Louden County Virginia. I have heard that the Eblens received land in Tennessee in exchange for their land in Virginia which was incorporated in the formation of the District of Columbia.

Though we don't know all of Hans' ancestors in Germany,  heraldic research turned up a Coat of Arms for the Eblen family in Germany. To make the pages load as fast as possible I did not put a large graphic of it on this page. You may click on  Coat of Arms to view this. The importance of this find is that it is usually possible to locate the lineage of titled persons in the european records from the middle ages. Through the efforts of Jimmy Eblen (Texas), his research and a trip to an Eblen family reunion in Germany, he has resulted in a finding five generations of  european ancestors. These begin with Hanns Eblin (circa 1540).

Several Tennessee newspaper accounts of the Eblen family provide conflicting stories about our ancestors. One story purports that an Eblen served with General George Washington. Contributors to this genealogy report that Samual Eblen did fact serve in the revolutionary war, however that is not to say he actually served with washington. If anyone has more accurate accounts of Eblens  who served with Washington, I would appreciate your sharing that with me.

Birth dates and other private information has been removed for any living individuals to protect their privacy over the internet. A Gedcom file is available to other members of the Eblen family.  There are a great may more Eblens in America, than are listed in this genealogy, and I should be happy to hear from any of them. You may write or e-mail me at the address on the Send Mail page with any corrections, additions, or to request  a Gedcom file.
