#688 State of Missouri vs. James Michaels:
Indictment for selling liquor without licenseThis day came the circuit attorney and the said James Michaels in his proper person appears. And thereupon came Joseph D. Simpson into open court and acknowledges himself to our and stand justly indebted to the state of Missouri in the sum of one hundred dollars to be levied of his goods and chattels lands and tenements on condition that if the said James Michaels shall appear a the next term of this court to be held at the court house in Perryville on the second monday of October next then and there to answer to the indictment aforesaid then this recognizance to be void otherwise to remain in full force & effect.

October Term 2nd day & 11th day of the month ad 1842
The State of Missouri vs James Michaels:
Indictment for selling liquor without licenseState of Missouri
County of PerryThis day came the circuit attorney and the said James Michaels and on the defendants motion to quash the indictment in this court the court being fully advised, doth overrule the motion and the parties being ready for trial, thereupon came a Jury to wit:
Nicholas P. Tucher 1, Simeon Duvall 2, Martin Tucker 3. James Dunn 4. John Moore 5. Peter J. Tucker 6., Joseph Grass 7, Joseph J. James 8., Raymond Tucker 9., Hillarion Manning 10, William A Walker 11, George Brewer 12,good and lawful men who being elected tried and duly sworn will and truly to try the issue between the parties returned here into court the following verdict to wit:"We the jury find the defendant guilty of the charge in manner and form as in the indictment is alleged and assess the fine to the sum of twenty dollars."It is therefore considered and adjudged by the court now here that the plaintiff do have and recover against the said defendant the said sum of twenty dollars together with the costs in this suit expended and have execution thereof and that the said defendant stand committed to the custody of the sheriff until the payment of such fine and costs.Back to the Top

County of PerryThis day came the said defendant by his attorney and files his reasons and moves the court for a new trial in this case.

Indictment for selling liquor without a licenseState of Missouri
County of PerryThis day came the circuit attorney and the defendant by his attorney comes and files his affidavit and moves the court to grant him a new trail and the court having heard the arguments of the parties overrules the motion.
