Panda

Panda was born in Rescue on 10/23/00. She is spayed, vet checked, wormed, getting puppy shots, and on heartworm preventative.

Her mother Lily was surrendered to Rescue by breeders as part of a deal whereby authorities would not file neglect charges against them. Rescue was subjected to considerable criticism because we brought her back to New Jersey immediately rather than let the shelter include her in a massive Spay-a-thon. She was in the eighth week of a nine week pregnancy. After examining her, our veterinarian stated that to spay her so close to term (especially when she was anemic and underweight from parasite infestation) would probably kill her and that it would be in her best interest to let her deliver.

Panda will probably have a good deal of coat. She has gotten regular clippings ever since her eyes were open and generally behaves (but it does help to have an assistant hold her).

The litter was Puppy Aptitude Tested, and Panda is an excellent obedience or agility candidate. She has been described as a "whirling dervish". She's the first to check out new things and still isn't convinced she doesn't have wings. She has never met a stranger and loves to give kisses but doesn't have the time to cuddle.

Panda is an EXTREMELY high energy puppy. We will only consider placing her with someone with considerable dog - and preferably cocker - experience.

She has been raised with cats, and she plays well with the other dogs in her foster home. She pesters the heck out of them, but she understands dog language when they've had enough and doesn't seem especially interested in challenging anyone's place in the pack.

While a 3 month-old puppy cannot be considered housebroken, she is making great strides in that direction. She goes immediately when she is taken out and holds her business for a reasonable amount of time when she's crated.

Rescue's policy is to not place puppies with young children, people who are gone all day (because of housebreaking issues), and people who intend to kennel the dog outdoors.
