Lily's Pups

Lily's pups were born on 10/23/00. They are vet checked, wormed, getting their puppy shots, and will be spayed/neutered before they will be available in late January.

Lily was surrendered to Rescue by breeders as part of a deal whereby authorities would not file neglect charges against them. Rescue was subjected to considerable criticism because we brought her back to New Jersey immediately rather than let the shelter include her in a massive Spay-a-thon. She was in the eighth week of a nine week pregnancy. After examining her, our veterinarian stated that to spay her so close to term (especially when she was anemic and underweight from parasite infestation) would probably kill her and that it would be in her best interest to let her deliver.

The pups will probably have a good deal of coat. They have gotten regular clippings ever since their eyes were open and generally behave (but it does help to have an assistant hold them).

These puppies have been Puppy Aptitude Tested, and they are all excellent obedience candidates. This is a high energy litter and we will only consider placing them with people with dog experience.

All the puppies LOVE people and run up to strangers to be picked up and kissed. The girls are somewhat Alpha and might not fare well in a multi-dog household.

Rags experiences the world through her mouth. If it's there, she has to taste it and carry it around... She takes a little longer to feel comfortable in new situations than the others, but once she's familiar with her surroundings, she's as bombastic as her littermates. Boots is a typical Black & Tan clown. She loves to pull dish towels down and drag them all over the house, grab at pants legs and get into anything a puppy can find. She runs around like a madwoman but is always drawn back to where the people are.

Panda has been described as a "whirling dervish". She's the first to check out new things and still isn't convinced she doesn't have wings. She loves to give kisses but doesn't have the time to cuddle. She needs to go to someone who can wear down her batteries... Mittens has a "look at me" attitude. She takes a few seconds to acclimate to a new situation, then she is off and running. She is the one her mother and "aunts" feel the need to discipline most - and she is quick tell them they can't really mean her...

Socks likes his toys and will play independently. He doesn't just bark to bark, but when he thinks it is time for something to happen (like get up or eat), he will offer verbal encouragement. He loves to chew on the cat's ear. Salem is the most like his mother. Although he is just as active as the others, he will occasionally take breaks to sit on your lap and chew on a toy (or your hair, your fingers, your clothes - anything that's handy).

Rescue's policy is to not place puppies with young children, people who are gone all day (because of housebreaking issues), and people who intend to kennel the dog outdoors.
